Forrest General Chaplains to Host Monthly Clergy Prayer Breakfast

HATTIESBURG- Forrest General’s Pastoral Services staff will host their monthly clergy prayer breakfast on Thursday, February 17 in the Elm Room at the hospital from 7:45 until 8:45 a.m.

Breakfast for all officially registered members of the local clergy will be complimentary, courtesy of Forrest General. All members of the clergy should present their yellow clergy registration card to receive their breakfast. If you are a member of the clergy and do not have a card, please see the Information Hostess at the hospital front desk prior to breakfast to register.

This month, Dr. Clint White, Neonatologist, will attend to discuss the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit coming to Forrest General Hospital.  At the conclusion of each meeting, attendees will form small groups for prayer. The hospital’s Pastoral Services staff hopes that these meetings will assist area clergy in meeting the spiritual needs of congregations and the community.

FGH SUPPORT GROUP HOSTS DIABETES SPEAKER

Forrest General Hospital’s Adult Diabetes Support Group will meet Wednesday, February 16 from 3:00-4:00 PM in the Education Classroom at LiveWell.  The session will feature guest speaker Megan Long from CCS Medical.  The focus topic will be “Testing Your Glucose.”

The Adult Diabetes Support Group addresses the special needs of people with diabetes, providing the opportunity for discussion on topics such as nutrition, medicines, foot and eye care, complications, motivations, exercises and blood glucose monitoring. Meetings occur on the third Wednesday of every month and are free to the public.

Spirit of Women presents first session in new Passionate for Parties series

HATTIESBURG- Forrest General’s Spirit of Women is launching a new event series designed to inspire passion in women of all ages – passion for parties, health and life itself! Attendees will join local experts Catherine Strange and John David Williams in learning how to throw the best party of the season – in any season!

The first session, to be held on February 1, is titled “For the Love of Valentine’s and Mardi Gras!” and will get attendees excited about these holidays that fall early in the year. Learn great tips for hosting Valentine’s parties or celebrations for two and get a head start on the Mardi Gras season with fun party ideas and beautiful Mardi Gras ball gown modeling from Occasions! Attendees will also learn more about living a heart-healthy lifestyle with cardiologist Tom Messer, M.D., in recognition of February, which is National Heart Month!

This event, as well as all events in this series will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, and lunch will be served. Cost to attend each event is $15 for Spirit of Women members and $25 for non-members.

Forrest General presents fun way to keep your New Year’s resolution with “New Year, New You” contest

HATTIESBURG- Are you tired of making the same old resolution to lose weight, only to fall off the bandwagon by the end of January? Forrest General Wellness is proud to announce their “New Year, New You” contest, which is a great way to actually keep your New Year’s resolution!

This contest is designed for anyone interested in improving their overall health and winning great prizes in 2011. There will be friendly competition and eliminations throughout the contest, similar to popular weight loss reality television shows such as The Biggest Loser. The lucky people selected to participate in this contest will have one-on-one assistance and access to a Registered Dietitian, Licensed Wellness Counselor and Exercise Physiologist to coach and guide them during the three month contest. Forrest General Presents First “Red Carpet Event” To Honor Employees

HATTIESBURG- Forrest General’s star employees of care walked the red carpet on January 11 at the first annual “Red Carpet Event,” hosted by the hospital at the historic Saenger Theater in Downtown Hattiesburg.

This awards event, which will be held annually, was modeled after the classic Academy Awards show and served to honor several categories of awards given to Forrest General employees. Employees honored during the evening’s event included Forrest General’s Top Performers of 2010, which were based on patient feedback; We C.A.R.E. Award recipients who were honored for upholding the hospital’s We C.A.R.E. philosophy; and Service Award recipients who were recognized for years of service to the organization. This event also publicly honored the hospital’s 2010 Employee of the Year, Kathy Jones, who was announced as the winner during Forrest General’s annual Employee Christmas Party in December.

Also honored were the four winners of the 5th Annual Philip Rogers Quality Award. The award is named for Dr. Philip Rogers, a nephrologist with Hattiesburg Clinic, who dedicated 32 years of his life to serving the people of South Mississippi as a physician, mentor and humanitarian. Dr. Rogers, Forrest General’s first nephrologist, was known as a kind-hearted, brilliant physician and great medical staff leader, and was greatly admired and respected for his commitment to his patients and the medical field. Four recipients, each influential and important members of Hattiesburg’s medical community, were announced during the evening’s presentation and honored for their roles as a humanitarian, innovator, leader or mentor.

The star-studded extravaganza featured guest speaker Mayor Johnny DuPree and local celebrity emcee Randy Swan of WDAM-TV. Attendees were treated to special performances by the Forrest General Spirit Girls.

Spirit of Women event gets back to the beautiful basics of life with “The Well-Read Home”

Forrest General’s Spirit of Women will present the fourth event in a special series designed to renew focus on the beautiful basics of life, such as music, art, reading and enjoying the comforts of home. The fourth session, titled “The Well-Read Home,” will be held on January 12 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Hattiesburg Country Club.

At this session, attendees will join Donna Davis of the Hattiesburg Library to learn about the beautiful basics of the literary classics from Jane Austen to John Grisham, including how to choose the best books for your family… adults, teens and children. Also, Jeanne Carlson, BSN, MSED, of Forrest General’s LiveWell Center will speak on the importance of exercise, reminding attendees to also keep the basics of their health under control and always a priority!

Forrest General Spirit of Women, Traci Goodwin present Breakaway Prom Fashion Show

HATTIESBURG- Teens looking for the latest in prom fashion are invited to attend the Breakaway Prom Fashion show on Saturday, January 15 from 7 – 10 p.m. at the Lake Terrace Convention Center. This is the only prom fashion show in the area featuring juniors and seniors from area high schools modeling the hottest looks for prom season. Models will hit the runway to the DJ skills of SL 100’s “Ya Boy” Don King.

Breakaway is more than just a prom fashion show! Attendees can browse through vendor booths from Occasions, Elegant Evenings and Susan’s Shoppe and also get an important reminder from Pine Grove Behavioral Health on healthy ways to avoid the pressure to abuse alcohol and drugs that often comes during prom season.

It only costs $7 per person to get in the door for a sneak peek at what’s hot for girls and guys’ in dresses, tuxedos and accessories! Proceeds benefit Forrest General’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Former First Lady Laura Bush to visit Hattiesburg for Spirit of Women Spring Event, “Caring from the Heart: A Woman’s Legacy”

HATTIESBURG- Forrest General’s Spirit of Women is proud to announce that Laura W. Bush, former First Lady of the United States, will be paying a visit to Hattiesburg as part of the Spirit of Women signature Spring Event 2011, “Caring from the Heart: A Woman’s Legacy.” This event, to be held on April 28 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center, is sure to be an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience for women of all ages as they hear from one of the most famous and influential American women of the 21st Century.

Attendees at this event will be treated to a delicious luncheon featuring a keynote address from Mrs. Bush, as well as a very special gift to commemorate the occasion. Attendees will also be able to purchase a copy of Mrs. Bush’s recent memoir, Spoken From The Heart, a beautiful recounting of Bush’s life including her eight years in the White House.

Spirit of Women previously hosted Mrs. Bush’s mother-in-law, former First Lady Barbara Bush, at the 2006 Spring Symposium. The event resulted in a record turnout of women from across the Pine Belt, and the 2011 event promises to be equally successful! FGH Patients Receive Early Visit From Santa

HATTIESBURG- Santa and his friends from the South Mississippi Medical Alliance visited Forrest General on December 16 to deliver gifts donated by members of the alliance and the South Mississippi Medical Society.

The South Mississippi Medical Alliance is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote health education and encourage participation in building a healthier community. Thanks to these outstanding organizations for bringing Christmas cheer to Forrest General’s patients!
