Hattiesburg City Council Calls Special Meeting for 4:30pm TODAY

Hattiesburg City Council

Hattiesburg City Council

The Hattiesburg City Council has called a special meeting for this afternoon. The Council’s hastily called meeting follows a decision by Circuit Court Judge Bob Helfrich, earlier this afternoon. Helfrich ruled that the Council’s decision to fund the Hattiesburg Public Schools budget at a lower amount than they requested was contrary to state law.

That means the HPS will now receive the amount of money they requested for 2011 fiscal year.

Council members are expected to vote this afternoon to raise the millage rates in Hattiesburg to generate the additional revenue needed.

We will continue to update this story with video comments in the next several hours.
